1) Your Word Count (how many words in the manuscript you have currently; or, if you need a book ghostwritten, the desired word count)
2) Your Deadline
3) The Service You Need (if you're unsure, tell me a bit about your book and what kind of concerns or problems you have; or, see the box below for direction)
4) A sample from the manuscript or a section of writing.*
*All writing samples I receive are completely confidential, viewed only by me for evaluative purposes. When it is available, a writing sample helps me ascertain what work needs to be done, so I can provide the most accurate Estimate possible.
If you're not sure what kind of help you need, here are some examples of types of editing I can provide:
Structural Edits: Structural Edits are broad edits to plot, characterization, voice/tone, etc. Structural edits provide the eye of a trained editor to help you strengthen your manuscript. This type of work is done as the book is coming together, as you are working through drafts.
Line Edits: Line Edits are precise, specific changes to language, provided to improve readability and flow on a sentence by sentence, or line by line basis (hence, "line edits.") Line Edits are provided when the manuscript is close to completion, but still needs some polish.
Copyedits/Proofreading: Copyedits correct any last grammatical or spelling errors in the final manuscript, so that when text goes on to be prepared for printing, the text is as perfect as possible. Copyedits are provided in the final stages, to make sure the book is error-free. Proofreading corrects any errors that may appear after the book has already been designed and laid out. Both copyediting and proofreading ensure that the final, printed book is impeccable.
